Get to Know Yonatan Pevzner, DDS
Dr. Pevzner is the owner, founder, and sole dentist at Highland West Dental Care, allowing his patients to always see one trusted provider every time they come in. He loves virtually every aspect of being a dentist here in Austin, but his favorites are helping patients relieve their pain and restore their confidence in their smiles and getting to work alongside an amazing staff every day. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Pevzner’s interest in becoming a dentist peaked during his junior year of high school. He was always interested in the sciences and working with his hands, and after exploring many different career options, he decided to shadow his childhood dentist. He will never forget the first time he saw her do a root canal. She was able to help an older woman get out of pain immediately. She showed Dr. Pevzner the infected nerve of the tooth as she took it out with one of her instruments and said: “That little nerve was the reason this lady was in so much pain. She won’t be in pain any longer.” He knew that day that he wanted to be able to offer the same relief to people.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Pevzner earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from SUNY Buffalo Dental School in 2019, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Over the years, he has taken over 500 hours of continuing education courses and has been on numerous dental mission trips to Guatemala to help underserved populations there. He has also completed advanced training in oral surgery and wisdom tooth removal, the placement and restoration of dental implants, full mouth reconstruction, and endodontics (root canal treatment). Dr. Pevzner is also licensed to perform all types of dental sedation.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Pevzner grew up in Jerusalem, Israel, and is the oldest brother of three siblings. His parents, Igor and Anna, are two of his greatest sources of inspiration. They emigrated from Russia to Israel, and they subsequently left when Dr. Pevzner was eight years old to live in Port Washington, New York. His family still lives in Port Washington, but he often visits them and hopes that they will move down to Austin in the coming years.
Dr. Pevzner loves living in Austin with his boxer dog, Yuri. He enjoys being outdoors, going on long walks with Yuri, and paddleboarding on Lake Austin. You can also find him practicing Kundalini Yoga to help calm his mind and get in touch with his spiritual side, playing pickleball with his friends, and exploring all of the good restaurants and food trucks Austin has to offer. He also loves to travel to other countries and most recently went to Thailand and Costa Rica.
An Interesting fact about Dr. Pevzner is that he speaks several languages, including Russian, Hebrew, and Spanish. He’s also a grill master when it comes to cooking steaks, and his secret talent is Latin Ballroom dancing!
