Finding a dentist who speaks English isn’t too difficult in the United States. However, when it comes to other languages, like Russian, Hebrew, or Spanish, you may have to look a bit harder. Clear communication is essential for achieving and maintaining good oral health. This is why Dr. Yonatan Pevzner with Highland West Dental Care is pleased to use his multilingual skills to ensure all of his patients’ smile needs are met. Keep reading to discover which languages Dr. Pevzner speaks when providing high-quality dental care.
Russian
Dr. Pevzner’s parents, Igor and Anna, are originally from Russia, and his Soviet-era Russian grandparents raised him. Growing up, he ate borscht and pickled herring, two delicacies native to Eastern Europe. Because of his family’s heritage, he grew up familiar with Russian, making it easy for him to communicate even after arriving in the United States as a young boy.
Hebrew
As the oldest brother of three siblings, Dr. Pevzner grew up in Jerusalem, Israel. His parents emigrated from Russia to Israel but eventually settled in Port Washington, New York, when he was eight years old. Claiming Shawarma to be his favorite Israeli food, he believes the best place to get it in Austin is at Pita Plus.
His ability to speak Hebrew is unique, as few dentists near Cedar Park can provide this level of care and service.
Spanish
Although Dr. Pevzner’s background and upbringing led him to learn Russian and Hebrew easily, he recognizes the need and importance of also speaking Spanish.
According to the City of Austin Planning Department, as of 2020, the Hispanic population increased to 312,448, contributing to 20% of Austin’s total growth since 2010. Among the city’s population, 45 languages are spoken, with English first and Spanish second.
English
After emigrating to the United States as a boy, Dr. Pevzner spoke English, which made it easier for him to pursue his education. Although it remains the primary language of the United States, he recognizes the value of speaking other languages as well. In fact, the Census Bureau estimates that as of 2023, 78% of the U.S. population speaks only English, but 21.6% speak other languages.
From spending his early youth in Jerusalem and being raised by Russian grandparents, to going on mission trips to Guatemala while in dental school in New York, Dr. Pevzner’s multilingual skills set him apart. It is just one of the many reasons why so many patients trust him with their smile, and so can you.
