Oftentimes, you hear about all of the delicious foods that are harmful to your smile and other areas of your body. The good news is that not all foods cause issues. In fact, there are some snacks that can do wonders for your teeth and gums. Your oral health can benefit from a balanced diet! Read on to learn more about some of the scrumptious foods and drinks that you can freely enjoy without worrying about your smile.
Cheese
Dairy products, like cheese, are great for your dental health because they are a good source of calcium. This mineral is essential for you to maintain strong teeth and bones. Cheese and milk also contain the casein proteins, which stabilize and repair enamel.
Leafy Greens
Spinach and other leafy greens are loaded with fiber. They are great for your teeth since they require a lot of chewing and increase your salivary production. This helps to clear away lingering food particles and bacteria from the mouth. Try adding a side salad to your meal.
Apples, Pears, Carrots, and Celery
High fiber fruits and veggies are great for your dental health because they help to increase your saliva production. This helps to prevent dry mouth. Carrots and celery are excellent sources of vitamin C and vitamin A. Apples provide hydration and help to satisfy your sweet tooth instead of sugary treats.
Wild Salmon
Wild salmon are high in omega-3s and are a great source of vitamin D. Without vitamin D, your body is unable to absorb the calcium it needs to protect and strengthen your teeth.
Green Tea
This drink helps to control the number of bacteria and lower the overall acidity in the mouth. It contains powerful polyphenols which have been shown to reduce the harmful bacteria that are responsible for causing tooth decay. Loose leaf green tea also contains a small amount of a natural mineral called “fluoride,” which is known for its ability to strength the enamel of the teeth.
Almonds
This nut is great for your teeth because it is a good source of calcium and contains proteins. It is also low in sugar. Instead of reaching for potato chips or crackers, have some salted almonds as a snack instead!
If you aren’t already, try adding a few of these items to your menu. Your smile will thank you!
