Oral conscious sedation is a deeper method that involves taking a prescribed pill, about an hour before your appointment. Finally, IV sedation is the strongest option, delivering medication directly into your bloodstream for immediate and potent effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will I Be Unconscious?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

None of these methods will render you unconscious. Despite the name “sedation,” you’ll remain conscious and able to respond throughout your appointment. The only difference is that you’ll feel deeply relaxed. In the case of oral or IV sedation, you may not remember much of the procedure at all once the effects wear off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Long Do the Effects Last?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The timeframe varies a lot by method. Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes of removing the mask you inhale it from, so you can safely drive yourself home. However, oral conscious sedation can linger for up to eight hours, and IV sedation effects can last as long as 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
